Believe and Achieve
At Greenhead College we pride ourselves on being an inclusive college maximising opportunities for all students to succeed and progress in their chosen career. If neither of your parents gained a university degree, you live in a low income household or in an area where not many young people progress to university, you may belong to a group known as Widening Participation.
We have a carefully designed programme for our widening participation students called Believe & Achieve. If eligible, you will receive bespoke advice on getting a place on preferential schemes at one of our partner universities. This may mean you get lower than the standard university offer. In addition, we will tell you about numerous other schemes on offer through universities, employers and organisations aiming to increase confidence, aspiration and attainment. This is achieved through our tailored tutorial programme and curriculum departments. We offer regular events which aim to connect you to our successful past students and to experts in a range of fields who can help you access opportunities and broaden your skillset.
There are over 30 widening participation eligibility criteria. At Greenhead College, we focus on the 10 most common criteria, for example:
- Have you ever received free school meals?
- Are you a young carer?
- Are you the first generation in your family to consider university?
- Is English an additional language?
- Do you live in a postcode with low progression to university?
Believe and Achieve provided me with a thoroughly surreal experience at Cambridge which completely demystified my preconceptions of the university and gave me an introduction to a raw, real experience of the day-to-day life of a Cambridge student. This is an experience that not many had the opportunity to enjoy. I feel very privileged thanks to Believe and Achieve which has opened doors for me!

Believe & Achieve has assisted me on getting into a prestigious Bar Placement Scheme, which will look amazing on my university applications and give me an edge over the competition. I doubt I would have ever known about these amazing opportunities if I hadn’t learnt of the Social Mobility Foundation through Believe & Achieve Scheme.

It has allowed me to feel more confident in interacting with new people which has helped me in my current life and will help me in the future. The programme has also helped me in getting used to life at university and helping me understand how the university process will work
